Access to fresh produce

During the current coronavirus crisis, it is more important than ever to eat healthily.  Getting access to good quality fresh food can be challenging.  For people living in Edinburgh, there has been an initiative where wholesalers are offering to supply individuals and can deliver to your door.

The coronavirus crisis has hit the supermarkets hard with shelves stripped bare and a waiting list weeks long for a home delivery slot.

But there is another way to get the groceries you need delivered to your door without needing to leave the house.

Wholesalers have found a customer base to keep their businesses going until the restaurants open again and people across Edinburgh are able to snack on premium grub at competitive prices, delivered direct.

Below we’ve listed a range of wholesalers and veg box schemes.

Capital Wholesalers

This local, family run business based in Edinburgh since 1968 normally deliveries to some of the finest hotels restaurants and coffee shops but now they’re delivering to the likes of us.

On their website they said: “Due to the huge demand, we have diversified to help the communities in Edinburgh, we are offering contact-free home deliveries to all.”

They do a wide range of fruits, vegetables, dry goods, dairy, eggs herbs and even household items.

Campbell Brothers

On March 20th these guys started offering a wide selection of meats, fruit, veg and other essentials to the public.

They are known for their meats and usually deliver to businesses like hotels and restaurants.

You can get a full meat box for £40 or a produce box for £15.

Easter Greens

The much-loved greengrocers and vegan food store at the top of Easter Road is still open but they’re also offering click and collect through their website an offering delivery service from Deliveroo for anyone living within 1.5 miles.

Mark Murphy Fruit, Veg and Dairy

Established in 1981 with the aim of sourcing and supplying top quality fruit and vegetables, Mark Murphy will do you meat, fish, fruit and veg to your door.

Usually a supplier to the hospitality industry, they have started delivering to the public.

The Strawberry Shop

Selling a wide range of fruits, veg and of course, strawberries grown for the last 30 years on their Perthsire, these guys are doing as brisk trade in fresh produces boxes and word has it they have just started delivering to Edinburgh.

Crombies of Edinburgh

This butchers have been serving Edinburgh since 1955. But its not just meat boxes they deliver now –  vegetable boxes (£20 each) are now ready for sale & delivery. You will receive two boxes when you order fruit & vegetable box. One is for root & hard vegetables and the other is for more delicate types (Mushroom, peppers, tomatoes, fruits).

Charles Stamper Fruit and Veg Wholesale Ltd

They are offering next-day delivery on their veg boxes – with free delivery. If the reviews on their Facebook page are anything to go by, it’s quality stuff too.
