Sally Brinkman is a social epidemiologist with the majority of her research focusing on societies’ impact on child development. Sally is a Senior Research Fellow at the world renowned Institute for Child Health Research in Perth and is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide’s Australian Institute for Social Research. Sally spearheaded the use of the Early Development Instrument (EDI) in Australia being the first to pilot the instrument outside of Canada.
The EDI is now being piloted and adapted in various countries and much of Sally’s work is consulting to Governments and donor organisations such as the World Bank, UNICEF and the Bernard Van Leer Foundation working with various measures of child development for monitoring and evaluation purposes. The countries Sally has worked directly with to date include Indonesia, Peru, Argentina, Jordon and the Philippines. Sally continues to be the National Epidemiologist for the implementation of the Australian EDI Program, which is now a triennial census of all children
