Week7_Inhabiting Practice#Problem Scenario and Sprint Assignment

Solving Problem Scenario:

I have been asked to research, design, run and document an ‘Open’ workshop that teaches an aspect of my practice to a group of peers. I’m not sure what a ‘practice’ is, or if I have one! How can I figure this out? I’m also unsure about what ‘teaching’ this in the ‘Open’ might involve.  If I do have a practice, how might I support others to learn it in an open way?

During this process, I choose the method of “The four F’s of active reviewing“. The four F’s of reviewing will help me to review an experience and plan for the future by moving through four levels: Facts, Feelings, Findings, and Future.

  • Facts: An objective account of what happened
  • Feelings: The emotional reactions to the situation
  • Findings: The concrete learning that you can take away from the situation
  • Future: Structuring your learning such that you can use it in the future

And the project in this sprint is researching, designing, running and documenting an ‘open’ workshop that teaches an aspect of your practice to a group of peers.

Facts:

What I need to do is create a workshop that is “open” in order to teach others about one of the “practices” that I own. At the same time, the problem is that I don’t know “what is practice” and I don’t know how to teach in an “open” way to make sure others can learn, which I think are the two factual problems in this scenario.

Feelings:

Faced with this situation, without much information, the emotions should be confused, anxious, trying to find a direction or a breakthrough, and also eager to convey their practice to others.

Findings:

After studying this sprint, I think I have a basic grasp of how to create workshops and be open to teaching others how to practice.

First, we need to select a content for our own practice. It doesn’t have to be a specific skill, but it must be something that can be flexibly translated between tacit and explicit knowledge, in line with the circular model of SECI.

After that, we need to create content and determine the audience for this workshop. This involves where? For whom and why? What are the steps in the process of learning this practice? How can we assess the learning of the practice for everyone? These are questions that I think must be considered in the process of designing the workshop.

A learner is someone or something that is processing the information gained from their experience in a way that brings them some kind of change.

Therefore, in the process of creating our practice teaching content, we had to consider the variability of the subject, that is, the upper and lower limits of the content design. Using the UDL model, group size, age, factors affecting group learning capacity, prior knowledge/experience of group learning, individual characteristics (e.g., motivation, ability, confidence), and learning needs and support are considered in the plan, among others.

By considering the above, I designed an “open” workshop so that others could learn from my “practice”.

Open this miro link to see how I planned and prepared my “Rebuild Confidence” workshop during the process.

Why is it named “Rebuild Confidence”?
Because I believe that people are born confident, or fearless, but when we have experiences, good or bad, that shape our character traits and cause some people to become unconfident in the process, the “learners” in my practice are for this type of people, who are eager to fit in but afraid to do so, so my practice can be very So my practice can help them very effectively.

Future:

This inspired me critically to realize that I still have many shortcomings in designing my own practice, such as too few considerations and insufficient practice content, and also to know how I should go about creating an open workshop in the future that is available to a wide range of learners.

Again, I think for teaching practice has been very enlightening for me. I really like the feeling of helping others and learning something new. I think practice is a model of education that connects the whole community together, where there are no teachers and students in the traditional sense, but more people who teach practice and learners, a very equal and free educational space that is perfect for the arts.
