Out of Character Project – Location exploration.

I decided to look at inside locations that might lack sound or only have sound when someone in passing through, thinking about how I wanted the location to be interactive so there is relationship between the audience and space. I figured that the a staircase would be ideal to explore these ideas and experiment with sound some more. These are the drawings I made on location, really trying to capture the concepts of that I want to focus on.

After these drawings, I also went back blindfolded and sat down to listen to the sounds that happen in the background trying to document them through mark making and expressive blind drawings. I focused on shading as a way to represent the intensity of sound around me, the different pens/pencils also worked in capturing where around me I heard the sound and how loud it was or how close it was. They drawings came out as fast documentations of being in the space. From these I was also inspired to look at these marks and shading in a different way so I can bring the sound I heard in different moments into that space all at once.
