Week 6 Artist research
First artist I have chosen is Alexander Calder, I like the way he used lines and basic shapes with primary color to show art in a special way. Calder like to use metal wires connect to the shapes like a mathematical formula which can flow in the air and wind in order to make the viewer feel that the air is flowing and the space is changing. According to calder’s idea, he never agree with the sculpture must be static therefore he made the sculpture move and act in the most simple way—lines.
according to the drawings of Alexander Calder, he also use lies to represent a space or scene. All the art work looks so abstract and twisted, but Calder seems to made drawings vivid and visualized.
The second artist that I was interested in is called Henry Moor. Moore’s main sculpture theme is a woman’s body, usually in a reclining position, but sometimes in a standing or sitting position, and occasionally with a baby in her arms. He expresses a kind of touching spiritual power. He is infatuated with bone shape, trying to show a kind of vigorous and powerful vitality in bone shape. Henry Moore has made a lot of explorations on the problem of solving the relationship between sculpture and space in the modern environment. The use of lines and holes in sculpture forms to explore new space expression also gives us inspiration.
in the drawing of his art work, there are no shading or brushing. Only lines to show the shape, light and dark. In the drawing of his hand, it was special to see how he used black lines in one color to sketch the whole drawing.
