Weekly Changes – 13/11/2023

This brings changes for a few services, in particular those running XRDP servers will want to update promptly, here are the details for all notable changes…

XRDP

The version of XRDP for Ubuntu has been updated to 0.9.23.1, see the project releases page for full details. The package will only be updated at boot time since an upgrade can otherwise leave existing sessions in a disconnected zombie state. Note that this fixes a couple of security issues – CVE 2023-42822 and CVE 2023-40184.

Systemd

The LCFG systemd component has been updated to improve the logging of the outcomes from various system commands.

rsync service

For Ubuntu the LCFG rsync component now controls the daemon using Systemd. As this completely changes the way the service is managed it must be upgraded at boot time and, for good measure, requires a further reboot after the package has been updated.

This change is more significant than it might first appear as it fixes a long-standing nasty interaction with the LCFG systemd component that could leave systems stuck in a reboot loop.

Installer

The lcfg-builddebroot utility for building Ubuntu installer ISOs now comes with documentation.

MariaDB

A couple of minor issues have been fixed in the LCFG mariadb component. Also, the LCFG_OPTIONS_MARIADB package option now includes the libdbd-mysql-perl package as standard to match with SL7.

Software

There is a new LCFG_OPTIONS_MIME_SUPPORT package option for Ubuntu which installs the mime-support package and dependencies. A number of other package options have been tweaked to depend on that option which has caused a certain amount of churn due to reordering of options.
