Introduction, Lindy Richardson
Welcome to post 1, textiles 2C blog introductions
The purpose of this site is as a group blog to communicate the journey of this course at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh.
My name is Lindy Richardson. I am programme director of taught postgraduate Textiles at Edinburgh College of Art, and course organiser for the material and structures course here at ECA. The portrait above does convey me in my true light, independently determined. (not many 2 year olds can tie a bow in a doll’s hair), and preoccupied with all things textile. Sounds super cheesy but my love of textiles has been a lifelong obsession.
My inspirational textile is this stunning piece below by the legendary Beryl Dean. See her work here a this link

This piece is part of our University special embroidery collection held in ECA. I am the curator so if anyone wants to see any of our beautiful collection we can make arrangements once we are all back in college again.

Working from home workwear confession. I wear my yoga leggings almost every day. They have green paint on the calf of one leg and I stick my wellies over them daily to walk my dogs so that no-one see all the paint marks. I do, however always put my shoes on. I never zoom/teams or collaborate call in my slippers. Weirdly I often put perfume on when I am about to meet online.
My tactile fear sensation is cotton wool. It honestly makes my skin crawl. I can imagine the sensation now and the hairs on my arms stand on end.
My desk is currently surrounded by photography lights in an attempt to make short films to assist in teaching. I have found wrestling with technology challenging at times these past 6 months and cannot wait to get back into our busy creative studios and print room in the near future.
Really looking forward to woking with the 2C textiles group and keeping in touch with everyone via our group blog.
