This week marks the start of this year’s Careers in Sustainability campaign. Sustainability is a growing field and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future as awareness over climate change and environmental impact increases. During our campaign, we will be showcasing the breadth of options open to you and supporting you to identify ways to build your skills and experience for a successful and meaningful career that also contributes to a sustainable future.
What jobs are out there for me?
Sustainability impacts almost every workplace, so it is likely you could find a role within many different sectors. While some roles will require a related degree, many will not.
EAUC Scotland have a helpful ‘A Green Careers Guide’, identifying the following four ways you could work within sustainability:
- Essential for green: net zero & nature emergency jobs
Do you want to fight climate change by supporting decarbonisation in sectors like energy, construction, waste or transport? Do you have an interest in nature and biodiversity?
- Greening society: behaviour and system change jobs
Perhaps your background in social sciences, humanities, arts, enterprise, finance or law can help you make an important contribution to the environment.
- Green-enabling: ‘non-green’ jobs to make green organisations run smoothly
Want to make a difference but aren’t sure how your background in HR, administration, marketing or management can help? Your skills are needed here, too!
- Every job can be a green job: making your job greener
Learn what you can do, even if you feel like the job you have or would like to do seems to have nothing to do with the environment. Your job might have the potential to really make a difference – you might just not know it yet.
