Coming home for the summer from such an extended amount of time away, was a first for me. I was excited, sad to leave Scotland, but eager to have some time off. So far the summer is only half way through, and it is already different to what I imagined.
It was so amazing to come home to friends and family welcoming me back and wanting to hear all about my first year. I loved telling them what I was up to and hearing what had happened in their lives in the last year. It felt like a warm embrace, and that I had never truly left. I quickly fell into my old routines, visited old friends, relaxed with family, with a smattering of EMS. However, I found myself missing the buzz of Edinburgh, the cosy feel of the vet school, my friends, and just overall my life in Scotland.
Although it is nice to not be studying constantly, I find myself looking forward to next year. I am looking forward to the new things we will learn and experience. I am looking forward to exploring new things in the city. I am excited to hear all of my friends’ stories about their EMS and summers. Overall, I am looking forward to going back to my second home again. Because that is what Edinburgh and the vet school feel like after just one year, and I am happy to call it my home for another three years.
