UoE Sustainability Awards

UoE Sustainability Awards

On 26 March, we should have been in the beautiful St Cecilia’s Hall to receive our shiny new Gold Award for offices for WTCRF.  Sadly, because of the Covid19 pandemic and social distancing, the celebration had to be cancelled.  However … the awards have been ‘presented’ online!  You can see details of who has received awards at https://www.ed.ac.uk/sustainability/what-we-do/awards/about-the-awards/previous-winners/2019-winners.

WTCRF won its award with a project – “Zero Waist – a Health and Wellbeing Project”.  We participated in number of initiatives to promote physical and mental fitness, health eating etc, with our main focus being the step challenge, when we virtually made our way from Glasgow to Inverness and John O’Groats.  WTCRF was also recognised for being a long-term participant of the awards (awarded to those who have participated in the awards scheme for five or more years).  The Gold Office Award will give us a nice bit of symmetry, joining the Genetics Lab Gold Award which they achieved last year.  Just like a pair of wally dugs!

It was also great to see that CDP won a gold award for their eco-bricks project.  CRF staff based at CDP participated in this project.  Well done to them too.

So what’s next?  If you are interested in any sustainability initiatives and want to join the committee, please get in touch with Marie.  Or send in your ideas/comments to ECRF.Sustainability@ed.ac.uk.

I think I am destined never to get to a sustainability Awards ceremony! The most important thing though is that we achieved the Gold Award for the Offices to go with our Gold Lab Award. Now we have to think of more ways to make the ECRF even more sustainable and work to keep our Gold Awards.

Yes, such a shame. I was looking forward to seeing the refurbished St Cecilia’s Hall, as apparently it’s beautiful. Never mind – I’m sure we’ll get an opportunity another time!
