This weekend the forecast wasn’t looking too wonderful……. BUT with the outdoors in mind, nothing could stop me from venturing out.
I headed out to East Lothian – sustainably in a car share to the beautiful Tynningham – just past East Linton.
As always it is important to make sure you are fuelled for physical exertion .. by means of cake etc. Or healthier options. SO in light of this we headed to the Tynningham Smithy ( also known as Tynningham Coffee Shop and Tynningham Farm Shop) Sorry I don’t have any photos of what was to follow as it was all devoured rather quickly. I can assure you they have a very good homemade cakes and coffee, as well as a fine selection of savoury options we spotted ordered by other customers. Yum. The weather held up and we managed to sit outside in the rays of sunshine – lots of lovely dogs around too. What a nice place!
Onward – we took the not so obvious right hand turn – if coming from the Dunbar way – down to Tynningham car park. You start off in a bit of forest, with the option to go right or left. Right takes you a wee bit of a walk down – eventually to the beach which you can then do a lovely leftward loop back. I love this route! A left a the car park takes you a quicker route to the beach – past a few fields ( then go right and down the hill – there is a rope attached to a few trees as it’s a bit steep. But a good laugh! Up there is a lovely hut too I believe is hired for weddings or private stays. ( See link below ) What a view from up there! Right onto the Bass Rock. Down the hill and you get a beautiful view of the Bass Rock and a field full of Goats and HORSES! Say no more.
Keep on going straight ahead toward the beach through a small bit of forest or a slight left to go through the grassy dunes. Both will take you out on to the beach. Then you’re out there – to a long stretch of beach to walk along and snack…
Plenty of Gannets diving ( THE BIRD KNOWLEDGE IS BACK for those of you who read the Hebrides blog ) in the sun – it was time to take a seat on the lovely golden sand and take it in…. as well as 3 Swans bobbing along the beach. Think they were lost ..
Time for a quick kickabout – football skills to be worked on – before the weather did take a bit of a turn … for a brief 10 mins or so. Then the sun came back out. Always pack your waterproofs!
Although we didn’t get a chance to go to Tynningham house, we caught a few glimpses of the impressive building on the drive in. Looks worth a visit! (See link below for info)

Yet again the outdoors did not disappoint and I’m happy I got out this weekend – would love to hear if you did too! So great to get out and about – be that a walk in the city or getting out of it, it all contributes positively toward your physical and mental health 🙂

I found this beach for the first time just a few weeks ago, and walked it with my friend and her cute dog, Mr Bozzles. I couldn’t believe how huge the beach was! It was a beautiful day when I was there, and there were lots of surfers. Unfortunately, Mr Bozzles decided to christen a surfer’s gear-bag that had been left in the middle of the beach, so we had to make a bit of a sharp exit, being chased by said surfer… oops!
We also visited the wee cafe – the sandwiches are also amazing, I can tell you! And what a beautiful wee village. I’ll definitely be back.
