Anteneh Fikrie on his visit to SCPHRP

My recent visit to the University of Edinburgh from June 4-10, 2024 was a valuable learning experience. Edinburgh’s Old Town and historic architecture were inspiring. I was fortunate to collaborate with the SCPHRP team. Their approach of bringing together researchers, policymakers, and public health professionals to create impactful solutions in healthcare really impressed me.

During the visit, I had productive discussions with researchers from the School of Health and Social Sciences. We explored possibilities for future research projects together. I am confident that this visit has laid the groundwork for a strong partnership between Bule Hora University and the University of Edinburgh, which could greatly benefit public health research.

Moreover, I had the pleasure of engaging in productive discussions with Dr. Divya, Dr. Andrew, and Wako. The focus of our conversation was our MRC PHIND application aimed at developing strategies to support nutritional health among Ethiopian adolescents migrating from rural to urban areas for education. I am thrilled to share that our application has been selected for funding!

I’m grateful to Professor Ruth, Dr. Divya, Ellen MacRae, Dr. Andrew, Dr. Larry, Dr. Glenna, Dr. Julian, Wako, and the entire SCPHRP team for their warm welcome and invaluable assistance. My special appreciation goes to Dr. Divya Sivaramakrishnan (Deputy Director of Research (KEI), School of Health in Social Science) and Ellen MacRae (Strategic Project Support Officer) for their unwavering support since the inception of my trip and during the visa process was instrumental.

Lastly, I am excited to continue this connection with the University of Edinburgh, which has kindly funded my travel, accommodation, visa, and daily expenditures, promoting international collaboration and boosting research.
