Thoughts about Jane Bennett’s book Vibrant Matter

The book was really challenging for us to read, yet it was really interesting to think about the agency and force of all things.

During the seminar, we discussed about how we thought about this thought-challenging view. I think by admitting everything has agency, that every thing is a lively vibrating matter, we can feel ourselves as humans more of a equal specious than other things on earth, but not the one who domains and control everything. We were mentioned that the reason why some people find this theory hard to accept is that humans have been holding the thought that they are more superior than all other creatures in nature for  too long, and they haven’t challenged their mind at all.

We also discussed about mind and the body. All the time when we think we made the decisions all by our mind, but it might be the different parts of our body that affects our feeling and decision.

This makes me think of dualism. It might be different but it makes me question whether we have the full control over our body and what we do or not.
