During our workshop, James mentioned a programme called ‘Rumpus Room‘ in his feedback to me on my personal project. The Rumpus Room is an artist led initiative dedicated to collaborative art practice with children and young people. Their project seemed to have very similar aims to what I was hoping for. I think they deserve to be studied. So, I think they are worth looking into.

“Rumpus Room Studio is based in Govanhill and hosts a programme of youth led creative activity for children, young people and their families living in the area and wider Glasgow. The studio project aims to connect and celebrate diversity, people and place through child & youth led creative action. Rumpus Room aims to support children, young people and families that may face barriers to accessing arts opportunities. The studio is open to children, young people and families to use to host their own creative projects. The studio is free to use to individuals and unfunded groups”.

James points out that the way this organisation operates live a model much like mine. I would also describe them as best initiated by an artist, for example, and I am an art educator. So these art curatorial projects, it’s like they’re my educational projects. That’s why I need to think about care and friendship, but the question is which communities or groups the friendship of care is in. I realised that the Edinburgh Youth Group was a good choice and that these target groups fit my vision.

I realised how the Rumpus Room is advertised. How do you describe their projects? How do you attract people? For example, Instagram and Facebook. I initiated a craft education project as an artist, and I could work with them, they could offer a free venue and my ideas and audience seemed to match their niche. I could promote this offline craft course through his platform.

Next, I will reflect on my personal project in order to move forward successfully with my project, its plans and goals, and future goals.
