My pitch presentation is shown below;

1 in seven people in the UK are neurodivergent. The term neurodivergent encapsulates cognitive differences such as Autism, dyslexsia, ADHD and many more.

Neurodiverse people often struggle with sensory over- load in day-to-day life, with public places often being a trigger. These can often be resolved with empathetic design. Although everyone has different sensory trig- gers, there are a few that stand out in terms of interior design.

Project Theme

This project aims to combat sensory overload caused by cooking and occupying public spaces. This will be done by co-designing with neurodivergent people to create solutions to reduce sensory over- load in public spaces caused by design and provide a space for people to learn to cook simple meals for themseleves in a calm, relaxing environments.

Users

People of any age and ability are welcome to make use of the space, however as it is a university building it is most likely to be students. Students often experience a change in lifestyle when they start university as they are often away from home and living without their parents for the first time. This can mean they are managing a budget for food, learning how to cook, and even working around an unpredictable schedule, all things that can lead to improper eating habits. My space will provide a zone in which to access cheap and easy meals, to learn to cook and a safe space to prepare your own meals, as well as dining areas for eating and socialising.

Blow shows the plans of my basement ground and second floors, showing spatial zoning with the addition of work stations in the cook school (second floor).

Below shows my 3D physical model including station zoning inserts overlaid with function labels.

Feedback:

Should my spaces work in a gradient of quiet and private to social and louder spaces to allow people to choose and not be interrupted by other users.

How will the clean up work? Are visitors handed a box of utensils, crockery, etc to use and then when finished they had them back dirty to be cleaned all together in a different space?
