Hello! I am Gintare, a final year undergrad student doing Sociology and Psychology here at the University of Edinburgh. I started to work at EFI in summer 2022 as a student intern, and remained in the position since then.
As a student of sociology, I spent a lot of my time in the university exploring the processes and ways in which people attach meaning to different aspects of their lives – places, events, objects, relationships. Recycling a Hospital project, with its aim to honour the meanings and memories people have made in the former hospital building, therefore seemed especially meaningful and appealing to me. This building has for a long time been at the heart of people’s life in Edinburgh, both geographically and practically through the vital services provided in it. Therefore, there is no doubt that a lot of important, joyful, painful and otherwise significant memories will have been made here. I strongly believe that as the building moves on to the next stage of its life, it is especially important to honour and acknowledge all of these memories.
I am contributing to the project as a photographer, as well as the editor of this blog site. I hope that my contribution will help to document the project as it unfolds, as well as to bring the updates about it to your fingertips.
