Acting the ‘Nurse’
Well the summer has nearly come to an end but Nursing Studies has not stopped despite the sunshine and the Edinburgh Fringe festival on our doorstep. For one day (and one day only) Nursing Studies took over the clinical skills centre at the Royal Infirmary to film some scenarios for one of the online courses.
I was to play the part of ‘Susan- the diabetic nurse’ and I was involved in a few scenes around a case of a young diabetic who was visiting a diabetic clinic.I had been given a script so I could learn my lines and I had even tried to practice my best ‘nurse voice’ at home!
The whole day was actually really enjoyable and fun, and unfortunately as things had gone so well, we ended up doing an improvised scene between myself and the ‘Diabetic Consultant’.
The experience was eye-opening, with lots to learn from the technical side of using the microphone and the different positions to be in for the cameras to pick us ‘the actors’ up! I hope the students can enjoy and learn from the film as part of the Advanced Clinical Skills course, I’m sure a BAFTA nomination is on its way!
