Friday 20th March
Dear All,
Thank you for your work this week.
Congratulations to Emma, and to the ELM team on winning national UCISA awards! We should aim to either win or be shortlisted for one of these each year. We are currently in a 3-year streak.
Early next week we sadly wave goodbye to Tess Higgins who has done so much to transform our web training and integrated training and design teams. As her last act she has publish a portfolio of gorgeousness Graphic Design Portfolio Launch – Digital Skills, Design and Training
She also leaves behind a legacy of otterly excellent training. I am pleased to be able to say we are now properly cracking down on untrained editors of our extensive edweb estate. If you have been evicted, it may be time to finally do your Edweb2 training.
I know you will all be celebrating the Spring equinox with thoughts of balance , renewal and nature awakening. Speaking of which, credit to everyone who has made our new home at Forrest Hill look lovely, filled with light and cromulent plants. I hope you have all been in at least twice this week and you are working with your manager to know which is your anchor day and where to sit in order to be part of our LTW neighbourhoods and community. Where we work
You will remember that last year, our ‘Spring on the Wing’ potluck picnic, was also the launch of our 2025 mascot animal Patricia the Pochard Duck. The LTW Break Room. Let me know your thoughts on which spirit animal would best suit us for the coming year.
The Library have offered us their humorous take on what it’s like to work amongst students Welcome to the Main Library – The Unofficial Guide. I’d be happy to hear from any of our student staff if they have top tips for working with us, as we prepare to welcome our summer cohorts.
Library anecdotes missed include the fact that it should really be called the Litill Library, after Clement Litill, who gave the original collection of books, but apparently that would lead to confusion with those cupboards of pre-loved books you see in Edinburgh’s cheeriest community parks.
Thoughts shared are always welcome, as are reflections on staff development Staff Development Opportunities Be sure to read your colleagues’ blogs on what they learned last week.
As we hurtle towards the end of the semester, summer will go fast and it will be Ada Lovelace Day again. To remind you, we have complete freedom on what we do to celebrate that day, whether we have an event, a panel of speakers, whatever you prefer. If you would like to be involved in the organisation our celebration of steampunk coding, drop your name to Karen or Alessandra.

Enjoy a sunny weekend and be sure to grasp every opportunity to use apricity in a sentence.
Best wishes,
