Title: Leading Professional Learning: participatory research with students who are simultaneously applying course learning in the workplace

Author: Hannah Grainger Clemson

Theme: Research-Informed Teaching

‘Leading Professional Learning’ is a research project led by teacher educators in collaboration with students on a current taught master’s course. The students themselves are practising teachers, school leaders and local authority officers, taking the master’s course in addition to their full-time jobs.

The aim of the research – and the focus of the course – is to better understand how educators can effectively lead the professional learning of colleagues within school settings, and what challenges prevail. Research data were generated by interviewing course students, asking them to reflect on their own professional learning and applying their course learning in the workplace (schools). The analysis reflects on the experiences of these students who are themselves fulltime professionals in the education system, and belong to different stakeholder groups (e.g. teacher, headteacher, LEA).

This poster will be of interest to anyone engaging in the peer-led professional learning of educators. It will also be of interest to those considering engaging in research with university course students about their learning journey.
