Weekly Changes – 12/01/2026

A fairly quiet week, one issue of note is that some Jammy systems with multiple nvme drives experienced problems with the recent switch to the HWE kernel. Here’s the details of all the notable changes…

Kernel

It appears that switching to the new HWE series on Jammy has caused some issues for systems that have multiple nvme drives with them being enumerated in a different order. In particular, this can cause problems with finding the boot partition which was mounted by path rather than UUID on Jammy.

There’s new support for a ED_KERNEL_INF_5150 package option on Jammy if you need to pin the kernel back to the 5.15.0 series, rather than following the HWE series.

viewvc

The viewvc software has been updated to the first beta release of version 1.3.0, this replaces the previous locally-patched version that was checked out from the github repository. Support for EL7 and Focal has been dropped, due to the Python requirements it probably only functions correctly on Noble and newer.

PAM SSSD Accounting Fix

The pam_localuser module is now listed in the accounting rules for common-account immediately before pam_sss. This was missing and caused cron jobs for local users to fail to run, in particular www-data‘s job to clear out old Cosign cookies.
