Weekly Changes – 27/10/2025

Mostly a quiet week but there is an important update for the Ubuntu Jammy kernel for those who don’t follow the stable INF series. Here are the details of all the notable changes…

Kernel

The INF_TEST kernel for Ubuntu Jammy has been updated to 5.15.0-160. This fixes some serious regressions in the previous release which broke auditd – see bug#2126434, bug#2127055 and the 5.15.0-160.170 changelog for more details.

Console Server

When starting, conserver-server needs to be able to lookup hostnames so it has been configured to always start after network-online.target and named.service services.

A mistake in the recently-added logrotate configuration has been corrected.

apparmor

The lcfg/options/disable_apparmor.h header may now be safely included multiple times. This makes it possible to simply ensure the correct configuration is always applied.

CEPH

Some more work on the shared CEPH server configuration. The header now only enables SSH PubkeyAuthentication for the root user to avoid it being unexpectedly enabled for all users. The podman configuration has been split out into a separate header so it can be reused with other services.

Chrome Remote Desktop

The apt package repository configuration for the Chrome Remote Desktop software has been split into a separate header – ed/options/repos/chromerd.h. This makes it easier to enable only when necessary.

Software

The nullboot package has been removed from the Ubuntu Noble base list. It is unlikely to be needed and a recent package update was causing problems that couldn’t be easily solved.
