Weekly Changes – 30/06/2025

This week there is a selection of small improvements, we would particularly appreciate people testing the new version of the k5login component before it goes live. Here are the details of all the notable changes…

fail2ban

There is a small tweak to the jaillocal.tt template to deal with how settings are overridden by the Debian default configuration for Noble.

Dell BOSS

The mnvcli command-line utility for the Dell BOSS cards has been updated on Ubuntu Jammy and Noble.

k5login

The LCFG k5login component has seen a bit of an overhaul and is currently available for testing. The error checking has been improved to avoid issues with accounts that don’t exist or don’t have a valid home directory. The group permissions have been tightened up – bug#924 – and the correct GID is now set.

aptly

The LCFG aptly component has gained new resources that support setting the Label, Codename and Suite for published repositories.

There is also a new pub_multidist resource which can be used to control whether to publish a separate pool for each distribution. This is useful when an upstream repository contains packages with the same filenames for every distribution it supports but they are not identical file contents, e.g. because they are compiled separately but do not include a distribution specific string in the package filename. This is a new feature added in aptly version 1.6.0 and thus will only work on Ubuntu Noble systems.

snmptrap

The standard snmptrapd configuration has been updated for Ubuntu Noble to reflect changes in the upstream systemd service which is now socket-activated.

Kernel

The INF_TEST kernel has been updated on Ubuntu Jammy to 5.15.0-142.152 and on Ubuntu Noble to 6.8.0-62.65
