Weekly Changes – 09/06/2025
A variety of small updates and new features this week, here are the details of the notable changes…
network
The LCFG network component has been updated to support alternative templates for the /etc/hosts
file. A new alternative template is provided, named hosts2.tt
, that is similar to the original but adds any extra entries at the start of the file.
aptly
Some small improvements have been made to the LCFG aptly component. There is new support for setting timeouts on individual aptly commands and some enhancements to the logging/debugging messages which should make it easier to diagnose mirroring problems. We’re in the process of testing of some other code tweaks which should improve the handling of snapshot failures, in particular, for when an upstream repository is empty.
KillDisk
For DICE systems there is new support for PXE booting the KillDisk disk erasing software.
Fluent Bit
There is ongoing work to provide new support for the Fluent Bit log forwarding software. More details will be provided once the development work has been completed.
HP BIOS
There is a new header – ed/options/hpbios.h – which can be used to include software for updating and configuring the BIOS in HP desktop machines. Details of how to use the software is provided in the header.
Dell system updater
dsu has been updated to version 2.1.1.0
on Ubuntu Jammy.
Software
The util-linux-extra
package has been added to Noble as standard. This provides a selection of utilities that were previously supplied in the util-linux
package. In particular, this provides hwclock
which is needed for updating the time in a VM when it is resumed from suspension.
