Weekly Changes – 02/06/2025

Just a selection of small changes this week, here are the details…

memtest

For DICE systems, the version of memtest86+ in Jammy has been updated to 7.00 to match with Noble. This version supports a lot more newer hardware and has big improvements for UEFI support.

For all sites, the default symlink to the memtest86+ binary has been updated to support UEFI boot on Noble.

nut UPS monitor

For clarity, all SL7 configuration for UPS monitoring has been removed from the nut2 headers, this component never really supported SL7 properly (the older nut component is still available for SL7).

The systemd configuration has also been refactored, this makes it easier to support the new approach in Noble which uses a separate nut.target. There is also a new generator which automatically creates a separate service for each UPS being monitored.

PostgreSQL

There are security updates for PostgreSQL versions 14.18, 15.13, 16.9 and 17.5, see the official announcement for full details.

R packages

There are 2 new options to mirror repositories for R software packages using aptly:

  • APTLY_MIRROR_CRAN_4 – R Project 4.x packages for Ubuntu
  • APTLY_MIRROR_R2U – CRAN packages for Ubuntu

The necessary keyring files have also been added to the aptly-keyrings package.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
