Weekly Changes – 26/05/2025

No changes for most sites, other than the usual security updates, this week. Here’s the details of the few changes…

Kernel

The INF_TEST series kernel has been updated to 5.15.0-140 on Jammy and 6.8.0-60 on Noble.

DICE DNS

There is a new header – live/nameservers.h – which provides the addresses of the 3 Informatics site servers as macros – DICE_DNS_AT, DICE_DNS_IF and DICE_DNS_KB.

The timeout option in /etc/resolv.conf has been reduced to 2 seconds (the default is 5 seconds). When combined with the attempts option being set to 2, this means there is now a 4 second wait when a nameserver is not responding, that’s a big improvement on the previous 10 seconds.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
