Weekly Changes – 22/07/2024

After a few quiet weeks due to holidays we have a some notable changes again. Here are the details…

inifile component

For files managed by the LCFG inifile component (and also sssd and sysconfig which derive from it) there is a new options resource associated with each file. Currently only the noback option is supported, in a similar way to the LCFG file component, that prevents the creation of backup files (with a ~ tilde suffix) when the target file contents is modified.

ntp

The LCFG ntp component provides a new translator for nagios monitoring support, it uses the check_ntp_peer plugin to do the actual checking of the service.

On DICE, various ntp statistics scripts have been updated to support Ubuntu.

fstab

On Ubuntu there is a new schema for the LCFG fstab component, this moves the control of the mount-point selection (by device, UUID, label, etc) from being per-partition to per-disk which aligns with the way the FAI setup-storage utility behaves. We are currently investigating how to improve the mounting of the EFI partition to avoid problems on machines with multiple disks.

xfree component

The LCFG xfree component has never been supported on Ubuntu. To avoid some irritating error messages it is no longer included from the lcfg/options/video_intel.h and dice/options/video_intel.h headers. Also, any attempts to include the lcfg/defaults/xfree.h in an Ubuntu profile will trigger a helpful warning message from the LCFG server.

CUDA

CUDA version 12.5.0 is now available on DICE machines.
