Weekly Changes – 04/12/2023

This week has important updates for PostgreSQL servers and introduces basic support for Debian 12 (bookworm). Here are the details for the significant changes…

PostgreSQL

The PostgreSQL packages have been updated for versions 11.22, 12.17, 14.10 and 15.5. There is also new support for version 16.1. See the announcement for full details of the important security fixes.

nagios

Work continues on providing LCFG support for running a nagios service on Ubuntu. Originally the plan had been to completely convert the component over to the Debian way of doing things but that proved too large a step to take in one go. The component now generates a configuration that is more similar to what we use in SL7 but with all the essential changes which are required to make it function on Debian. This seems to be functioning correctly but we still have a lot of testing to complete.

The translator modules which are used to convert LCFG component resources into nagios configuration have been tweaked to avoid conflicts with the standard check scripts provided in the Debian packages. In particular, the names of all check commands created by the LCFG translators now have a lcfg_ prefix.

To provide all the features we require in Ubuntu Jammy, the monitoring plugins package has been rebuilt to the latest version (2.3.5) from Debian unstable.

Debian 12 (bookworm)

The basic headers and package lists have been added to provide support for Debian 12 (bookworm), note that this is just enough to allow profiles to be created, we do not provide complete managed environments for Debian distributions.

Configuration has also been provided for building packages for bookworm using the pbuilder utility.

Software

There is a new LCFG_OPTIONS_LIBLLVM15 option for Ubuntu Jammy which provides the libllvm15 library package. This is required by a few things including PostgreSQL packages that come from the PGDG repository.

The LCFG_OPTIONS_JABBERD option for Ubuntu now also includes the jabber-muc package (Multi User Conference component for the Jabber IM server) since it’s typically required for running a jabber service.

The LCFG_OPTIONS_CALIBRE option for Ubuntu has been tweaked to depend on the LCFG_OPTIONS_PYTHON_BS option which provides the BeautifulSoup Python module.
