Weekly Changes – 07/08/2023

This release sees some big software changes for DICE machines on Jammy but for other sites it’s a quiet week, here all the notable changes…

NFS

The rpc-svcgssd.service is now masked out at the LCFG-level for all Ubuntu machines to avoid Debian bug#869640. This was previously done in the DICE-level so there’s no change for Informatics systems.

HP Z4

There are new headers for the HP Z4 workstation – lcfg/hw/hp_z4_g4.h and dice/hw/hp_z4_g4.h – they have not yet been tested.

nvidia

Updates to the nvidia kernel module for Ubuntu Jammy will now request a reboot. If the autoreboot component is active then this means the updates will be automatically applied.

There is also now support for the 535 series on Ubuntu Focal.

DICE Software

The large research and teaching collection of software will be installed onto all Ubuntu Jammy machines this week.

Software

There are some new software options available for Ubuntu:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_OPENCV_DEV – development support for opencv
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_PYQT5 – Python QT5 modules
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_THONNY – beginner-friendly Python IDE
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_VTK9 – image processing software
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_VTK9_DEV – development support for VTK9
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_PYTHON_VTK9 – Python VTK9 modules

These can be enabled by adding the option name to the profile.pkgcppopts resource, for example:

!profile.pkgcppopts mADD(LCFG_OPTIONS_THONNY)

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
