Weekly Changes – 08/05/2023
Most of the changes for this week are related to the Jammy platform work. Here are the details of all the notable changes..
Ubuntu Jammy
Details of recent progress on the Ubuntu Jammy platform are now recorded separately, see the latest report.
Chrome Remote Desktop
There is new support for mirroring the repository for the Chrome Remote Desktop packages using aptly. The configuration can be enabled by defining the APTLY_MIRROR_CHROME_REMOTE_DESKTOP
macro. The associated local repository can be added to systems by defining the ED_OPTIONS_PACKAGES_CHROME_REMOTE_DESKTOP
macro in profiles.
On DICE the version of the chrome-remote-desktop package has been updated to the latest and a new dependency on xserver-xorg-video-dummy has been added.
New hardware headers
There are new headers – lcfg/hw/dell_poweredge_r750.h and lcfg/hw/dell_poweredge_r7515.h – for the Dell PowerEdge R750 and R7515 server models. These are clones of the configuration for earlier models and have not yet been fully tested. Note that it is expected that the systems will boot with UEFI.
Package Updates Churn
There are massive differences for the Ubuntu updates packages lists this week but they have no functional effect. The changes were caused by our switch to a new Ubuntu-based package server.
Software
There are some new software options available for Ubuntu:
LCFG_OPTIONS_A2PS
– ‘Anything to PostScript’ converterLCFG_OPTIONS_QT5LIBS
– core QT5 librariesLCFG_OPTIONS_SNAPD
– Daemon for snap packagesLCFG_OPTIONS_TEXMAKER
– cross-platform LaTeX editor
Many other options have been tweaked to depend on the new LCFG_OPTIONS_QT5LIBS
option.
On Jammy there are two other new options – LCFG_OPTIONS_FUSE2
(older fuse support) and LCFG_OPTIONS_GCC12
(GCC 12, which is needed by dkms).
