2022 The University of Edinburgh Gakuensai

はじめに

今年のエジンバラ大学学園祭は去年と違って、幸いにも2月にオンラインではなくキャンパスで行われました。そのため、新しいチャレンジや手続きも結構あった一方、去年とほとんど変わらなかった部分もありました。今から2022年度エジンラ大学学園祭においての準備と私たちの経験について紹介しますー!!!

 

Introduction

Unlike last year, luckily this year we were able to run Gakuensai in person in February. With this change came lots of new challenges and procedures, as well as similar preparation steps. Below we will introduce the preparation process and our experiences at Gakuensai 2022!!!

 

インタビュー

インタビューは去年と同じで、テーマは日本の学園祭と春の行事でした。

日本の節分という行事について色々教えてもらいました。節分で、人々は豆まきをしたり、年齢のかずだけの豆を食べたりします。そうすると、邪気や悪いことが起こらないと信じられています。こういう力を持っているのは、とても面白いですね。

去年のインタビューと比べたら、今年のインタビューはうまくいきました。なぜかというと、インタビュー対象の留学生二人は、インタビュー前のレッスンですでに会ったことがあったため、インタビューでも気軽に話すことができました。その反対に、去年の留学生はインタビューの時にお互いに初めて会って、距離感も感じられました。今年は対面でできてよかったと思います。

 

Interview

We did our interview in person this year and talked about the Gakuensai in Japan and festivals. We learned about Setsubun. It is a festival wishing for good luck to come and to expel the bad spirits and luck. Japanese people throw beans outdoors to keep the bad luck and spirits away from them. They also eat beans in a particular number which will bring them good luck. It is particularly interesting how luck is related with beans.

We also changed our plans on the booth for Gakuensai after getting suggestions from Japanese exchange students. Instead of making bubble tea or having a matcha-themed booth, we decided that it is easier to just sell baked goods as it is more manageable.

Compared with last year’s interview, I find that the interviews this year more relaxed. This is probably because we have met those exchange students before in an exchange information session, and so we found them easy to talk to as we both know each other. It is also nice to see them again and have more in depth discussion on Gakuensai.

 

グループの屋台が決まるまで

また、留学生に学園祭について、たくさんのアイディアを教えてもらいました。

私たちは元々タピオカとか抹茶テーマのブースなどをやってみたかったのですが、日本の学園祭の出し物について聞いたら、簡単に準備できる食べ物の方が良いと勧められました。

 

Deciding Our Group’s Stall

We also changed our plans for the booth for Gakuensai after getting suggestions from Japanese exchange students. Instead of making bubble tea or having a matcha-themed booth, we decided that it is easier to just sell baked goods as it is more manageable. Although we would love to try to make Japanese food like Yakisoba in the project room, we realised that it is not possible as none of us have the catering equipment to do so. In order to make the Gakuensai more authentic, we decided to bake cakes and cookies that use ingredients such as matcha so it will stand out from the others. We are extremely lucky that it is a huge success!

 

私たちの抹茶クッキー♪(´ε` )

私たちは抹茶クッキー作りを担当しました。クッキーを作るのに時間がかなりかかりましたが、おいしいクッキーができてよかったです。そして、他のメンバーも抹茶マカロン、クルミカップケーキなど、色々な手作りお菓子をたくさん作ってきてくれたので嬉しかったです。

 

Our Matcha Cookies ♪(´ε` )

We were responsible for preparing matcha cookies. Although it took quite a while to make the cookies, we were happy about how it turned out! On the day of Gakuensai, we were happy to see how other group members also brought various hand-made baked goods, such as matcha macarons and walnut cupcakes for our stall.

 

感想

ケリー: 今年のキャンパス学園祭はものすごく楽しかったです。準備の過程は想像より長いですが、友達と一緒にクッキーを作ったり、ブースの飾りを作ったりするのは楽しくて、いい経験となりました。そして、実際のイベントで同級生の友達や留学生や先生と会えて、学園祭を楽しめました。特に手作りのクッキーは人気があって、とても嬉しかったです。

 

ミンジュ:今年はキャンパスで学園祭ができて凄く楽しかったです。そして、屋台で皆の手作りクッキーを売ったり、日本学科の同級生と先生に会ったりできてよかったです。その上、私たちのグループ以外にも素晴らしかった屋台がたくさんあり、今年の学園祭も皆の努力のおかげで思い出の一杯の行事になれたと思います。同志社大学での交換留学生活中、学園祭も経験できることを楽しみにしています。

 

Our Gakuensai Reflection

Kelly: This year’s Gakuensai was particularly fun. Although the preparation took longer than what I initially expected, making cookies and putting up decorations for the booth was enjoyable and I felt that I learned a lot from it. It is also nice seeing friends, teachers and exchange students again in a different setting and the atmosphere was great that day. I wish to go to more Gakuensais in Japan while I am on exchange and I am really glad I am part of this year’s on campus Gakuensai.

 

Minju: I was so happy that this year’s Gakuensai was held on campus. Furthermore, selling everyone’s handmade cookies and meeting fellow Japanese Studies students, as well as tutors was so fun. Our Kendama game booth, which gave customers at our stall a chance to win a handmade bookmark prepared by the First Years was also a success. On top of that, there were many outstanding stalls other than ours and thanks to everyone’s efforts, I made many good memories at this year’s Gakuensai. I am looking forward to experiencing Gakuensai at Doshisha University during my year abroad.
