A few words about Fellowships

This is just a short post to remind you/highlight/inform you of the resources and support available for you related gaining research funding, in particular fellowships.

A good place to get started is with  A Comprehensive Guide to Fellowship Applications  There’s advice on timelines, finding opportunities, and more from our colleague Dr Anna Pilz here at IAD.

When’s the last time you logged on to Research Professional ?  While there’s a plethora of STEM related opportunities, a quick search for “Arts Fellowships” also returns a global list of opportunities of fellowships, short-term research opportunities, visiting fellowships, calls for artist-in-residence, and more.  Many are overseas, but there are a range of home opportunities, too:

      • November – Carnergie Endowment for International Peace
      • October – Gonville and Caius, University of Cambridge Research Fellowships
      • March 25 -Henry Moore Institute visiting fellowships – research and practice-based

And a few from overseas:

    • October – KF Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research – highlights opportunities if your research is focused on a specific region or topic, in this case, Korea-related.
    • November – Fellowhip in the History or Art and Visual Culture, Metropolitan Museum of Art, USA
    • December – Short-term fellowship from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium (Chicago) – focused on the Black experience on Chicago, public engagement in the Chicago Black community – an opportunity to branch out if Chicago is not already your focus?

That’s just a flavour of the broad range of opportunities that are available – if you’re planning for the future, please note, not every opportunity guarantees it’s available year on year so ensure you check this for ones you are particularly interested in. The “Our Institution” tab contains information and resources tailored to the University of Edinburgh. Our Funding page for research staff highlights workshops we run during the academic year on How to write your first fellowship application and Developing your funding profile. You can also find a range of resources on the theme of research funding, as well as a guide to wider University support available to you.
