June Careers Month 2025 is almost here! This blog will provide an overview of the key events that the IAD Careers Team have planned for the next month. During the first week of June we will take a closer look at “Dealing with Career Anxiety”. In this 1 hour online session participants will explore some of the sources of career fears, understand when anxiety can be useful and learn tactics for managing our emotions in our career constructively. Darcey and I will also be offering short 20 minute “Quick Consultations” in person on Wednesday 4th June. If you have a career issue that you’d like to discuss, are in need of some help getting started with you career planning, or taking actionable steps then this is an excellent opportunity to get started on your career journey!
In week 2 the annual PhD Horizons Conference takes place on Wednesday 11th June. If you are considering a role/career beyond academia this is a fantastic event to attend and will really help to kick start your research into other sectors. Research staff are welcome to attend and despite the title this event is not just for PhD Students! You will be able to think broadly about your career options beyond academia as well as put your networking skills into practice. During the second week of June we will also focus on Narrative CVs with an online Briefing session. See the programme overview for more information and to book.
During week 3 there will be an online panel session “Meet people working in Life Sciences”. In this one hour session you will get to hear about panel members career trajectories as well as have a chance to ask questions of the panel during the Q&A at the end of the session.
During the final week of June a member of the Prosper Portal team will deliver a short online session to highlight best practice in using Prosper Portal. The 30 minute session will provide more information on Prosper, an innovative approach to postdoc career development that seeks to unlock postdocs’ potential to thrive across multiple career pathways – both within and beyond academia. The session will introduce the online portal, how to use it effectively and discuss how accessing Prosper can be a great way to support your career development. Whilst we have chosen to focus on some specific topics over the next four weeks please be reassured that career planning can happen at anytime and does not need to be limited to the month of June! Darcey and I will be offering 1:1 Career Consultations throughout the summer.
