AI is changing our lives, yet the implications of what that change will mean, alongside what is required to deliver that change, are less studied and far less understood. Cream of the Slop aims to peer under the hood of just how Intelligent AI really is, and what humanity sacrifices to create something Artificial.
Our projects include short films that parody data collection, highlight the emotional impacts of digital relationships, and consider whether AI truly democratises art. We have interactive websites that test whether or not you can differentiate human/AI poetry, comics on AI hallucinations, an animation on the colonial nature of AI, even speculative fiction about companies’ integration of AI into workflow or what our streaming services may end up looking like. Our work further encompasses bias in AI models, how generative AI understands our digital selves, the impacts it has on the publishing industry, if it’s killing the author, if it can extract meaning out of poetry – ultimately questioning just how ‘helpful’ AI really is.
