Learning Design and Multimedia Production

Learning design can be used to develop, renew and enhance your learning and teaching, and although there is no single approach to doing this, there are pedagogical decisions that you should be advised to make when using digital technologies.

ABC Curriculum Design

ABC (Arena, Blended, Connected) curriculum design is a one day workshop that allows academic teams to discuss and create visual storyboards of students’ activities on a new or existing course. ABC was initially created by UCL Digital Education as a way to support the transition of face to face teaching to an online or blended format. However, it has proved effective in the development of new courses or in revamping materials already in place.

Using card-sorting to meet learning outcomes

The ABC uses a card-based method for curriculum design and explores the different elements of learning types such as:

•    Acquisition
•    Investigation
•    Collaboration
•    Discussion
•    Practice
•    Production

As the workshop progresses, a storyboard representing these elements are generated and mapped to conventional and digital learning activities. Please watch the video below to find out more.

Our version of ABC – contact us

We have developed an online version of the ABC workshop which will be delivered using MS Teams. if you wish to arrange an online ABC session for your new course or programme, then please contact us at:

Using multimedia in learning and teaching

Video

If you would like to use video materials in your teaching, but do not know where to start, we can help.

Recording video

Are you considering recording video materials for learning, teaching and related activities? This can be a standard video, a ‘screencast’ where you record your PowerPoint presentation with audio narration, or a combination of both.

We will either provide guidance if you are willing to handle the recording by yourselves or, given enough notice, we may be able to record videos for you.

Bespoke video packages

We can also build bespoke online learning packages, with videos embedded alongside other types of content, such as text, audio, images or quizzes.

Video and assessment

Do you want to integrate a quiz in your video? Perhaps you’d like your students to record a video artefact for an assignment? Or maybe you have another innovative idea for using videos in assessments? Get in touch and we can start discussing your project.

360 videos and virtual reality

We can record 360 videos and take 360 photos, which can then be incorporated in your teaching materials. They can be embedded on Learn or function as independent learning resources.

Interactive resources

We can produce interactive learning materials using software packages such as Articulate Storyline. They can include animations, various types of quizzes and interactions or simple learning games, depending on your requirements. Please contact us to discuss.
