The Co-Chairs
Professor Tommy Curry (Personal Chair in Africana Philosophy and Black Male Studies)
Tommy J. Curry is a Professor of Philosophy and holds a Personal Chair of Africana Philosophy and Black Male Studies at the University of Edinburgh. His research interests are 19th century ethnology, Critical Race Theory & Black Male Studies. He is the author of The Man-Not: Race, Class, Genre, and the Dilemmas of Black Manhood (Temple University Press 2017), which won the 2018 American Book Award, as well as the author of Another white Man’s Burden: Josiah Royce’s Quest for a Philosophy of Racial Empire (SUNY Press 2018), which recently won the 2020 Josiah Royce Prize in American Idealist Thought. His research explores anti-Black racism, anti-colonial resistance, and the sexual vulnerability of Black males throughout Western societies
Dr Nicola Frith (Senior Lecturer in French and Francophone Studies and specialist in slavery studies and reparatory justice)
Nicola Frith is a Senior Lecturer in French and Francophone studies. Her research and writing focuses on the legacies of slavery and colonialism, the process of memorializing slavery, and on the work of transnational activists to achieve reparatory justice for African enslavement. She is one of the co-founders of the International Network of Scholars and Activists for Afrikan Reparations (INOSAAR) and is the co-chair of the research and engagement working group.
