Samantha Likonde
Samantha Likonde is the community engagement officer for the Research and Engagement Working Group (REWG).
Prior to assuming this position, she earned an Honours degree in law in 2022. She has participated in a number of EDI committees at the University of Edinburgh due to her enthusiasm for change, and she was also voted to serve as the BAME Liberation officer for the academic year 2021–2022.
Samantha has first-hand knowledge of the injustices that ethnic minority service users, developers, and facilitators encounter due to her role as Lead project coordinator with Saheliya, a mental health charity that served asylum-seeking women and families, as well as her support of social enterprises led by ethnic minorities in Glasgow.
Samantha is thrilled to serve as the Community Engagement Officer for the Research and Engagement Working Group, she brings with her these experiences as well as her research experience with the Scottish Parliament whilst interning on a project to enhance their public participation. She is a dedicated advocate for social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, and is passionate about fostering positive change.
