Curating /// Week 4
Week 4 /// Tuesday
10.30am-1pm, HB_R.02B, Hunter Building, Lauriston Campus.
Embassy artist-run gallery (Edinburgh) will present their work and a selection of materials from their archives accompanied by course tutor Jake Watts.

Installation shot of Green Screen (2013) commissioned and curated by EMBASSY Gallery in collaboration with Modern Edinburgh Film School, held at the Broughton Street Lane gallery.
In advance of meeting with the Embassy gallery on Tuesday please engage with Artists Running: 50 Years of Scottish Cultural Devolution (Brown, Jackson and Mulholland, 2018) and Governance of the Possible (Baert, Schick and Trotman, 2020) as the core resesources for this session. The first text is a record of a discussion between some of the founding committee members of Embassy gallery and Scottish Art Historians about the longer political and economic implications of Artist-Run activity in Scotland. The second was suggested by EMBASSY and is from the RESHAPE network, it has informed EMBASSY’s thinking related to their current archival project ‘The Rich Compost of Before’ (2023) If you are interested in this subject matter and how Artist-Run activity is organised within an primarily European and North American context I also recommend reading the chapter ‘Mockstitutions’ from Gregory Sholette’s book Dark Matter: Art and Politics in the Age of Enterprise Culture.
