Seminar with Beth Dynowski Platforms & Organisation(s)

 

In group discussions, you will consider a range of example organisation’s vision, aims, ethics and values. You will also discuss their working practices and their local and global context (these examples are outlined below according to your Group). You will also consider how these commitments manifest through public programming, curation, curatorial themes, accessibility/availability of the space, financial structure, relationships with audiences, artists worked with, demonstrations of care, policies and organisational structure.

You will be asked to consider:

  • where and how aims and ethics match up with programming and practice
  • complexities, conflicts and/or contradictions in practice.

10.30 – 11.30

Task feedback and discussion on each individual arts organisation.

We will cover:

  • The vision, aims, ethics and values of each example organisation
  • The working context of the organisation (both local and global), its relationship to its locale and the intended audiences of the organisation
  • How the organisations commitments manifest through their public programming, curation, curatorial themes, accessibility/availability of the space, financial structure, relationships with audiences, artists worked with, demonstrations of care, policies and organisational structure.

BREAK

11.45 – 12.30

Wider discussion and reflection.

We will consider the spectrum and relationship between arts organisations, examining:

  • vision, aims, ethics and values
  • organisational, financial and operational structure
  • programming, curation and thematics
  • relationship with publics/audiences/artists

We will also consider our own priorities and values and start to visualise how they relate to production and programming on the Miro Board here.
