Today marks the end if this long and unusual semester, finishing off with an exam on diseases and husbandry of cattle. It has been a challenging semester, not only because of the extensive course material but also because of the new major life adjustments we’ve all had to make due to the ongoing pandemic.
As the holidays approach and I reminisce on the past few months, I can say that there were many good moments during this semester despite the challenges we’ve all faced. Here are a few of my favourite moments:
– Finally adapting to online learning and getting to interact more personally with some of our amazing professors and clinicians.
– Getting the chance to partake in on campus practical classes, my favourite being the small mammal clinical exam practical.
– Finding ways to still enjoy time outside of school and socialize with friends, specifically through our weekly online game nights!
– Learning to cook a greater variety of foods
– Celebrating some of the fun holidays throughout the term, such as Canadian Thanksgiving and Halloween from the comfort of my own home
– Learning the basics of British Sign Language
– Getting to explore more of the outdoors and the beautiful city of Edinburgh, including the specific Pentland Hills right behind our campus and getting to see the sunrise on Blackford Hill!
The more I think of this past semester, the more things I can find that I enjoyed and the more thankful I am for the wonderful friends and family that have supported me throughout my vet school journey. I am also thankful for the amazing staff and professors at the vet school, who have gone above and beyond to ensure our education has not been compromised and to ensure the best for our health and safety during these times. As we soon move on into the new year, I am looking forward to furthering my learning online and on campus (next semester focusing on smaller farm animals and exotics), as well as making more wonderful vet school memories in Edinburgh!
