Expert Round Table: ‘The British Empire and the Second World War’

In April 2022 we hosted an expert round table discussing the British Empire and the Second World War.

As the British Empire was mobilised to fight, it had far reaching consequences for all of those involved; the political, social, and economic transformations created new relationships, shifting loyalties and divisions, opening up new possibilities and closing them down. These tensions affected both the metropole and the Empire, soldiers and civilians, men and women. By approaching the Second World War from the perspective of the British Empire, we hope to deepen our understandings of the war’s dynamics, impacts, and legacies.

Our invited speakers were:

Professor Tarak Barkawi

Dr Rachel Chin

Professor Ashley Jackson

Dr Yasmin Khan

Professor Toby Kelly chaired the event.

The round table took place on Tuesday 26th April 2022, 2.30-4.30pm BST, on Zoom.
