Welcome to our new writer, Elia!

Hi everyone! My name is Elia, and I am a fourth year student in Sustainable Development and Sociology. Originally from Paris, I have also lived in New York and Hong Kong, before I came to the University of Edinburgh.

I’ve wanted to study abroad ever since high school. I wanted to meet people from all over the world and to interact in a multicultural city; studying in an English-speaking country like the United Kingdom seemed to offer exactly that.

Despite my indecisive character, choosing to come to Edinburgh was surprisingly straightforward. A quick tour of the University was enough to make up my mind: the minute I set foot in the city, I loved it. There was something about the wholesome atmosphere, the cute coffee shops, and the welcoming hills and rivers that made me feel safe and at home.

Not only is the city incredible, but the course I applied for was really exciting too. How else would I want to spend my time if not reading about climate change, discussing how I could participate in addressing contemporary societal issues, and meeting other passionate students?

Since then, I’ve been exploring every part of Edinburgh and its surroundings. I have joined societies such as French Society, Arts and Craft, and Slurp (student action against homelessness), and learnt new hobbies like knitting, bouldering, camping and hiking. I have tried to throw myself into all of the opportunities, experiences and events that I possibly could to help me learn about the city, the University and the Scottish lifestyle.

I am very excited to be joining the blogging team, and look forward to sharing my tips and university experience with you!
