The Alan Vaughan Richards, (AVR) Archive project involved the survey, archiving and conservation of extant drawings and papers of the late British Architect Alan Vaughan Richards, previously stored in his residence in Lagos, Nigeria, and in the ownership of his daughter.

The project was funded by a British Academy Small Research Grant, with additional funding received from the University of Edinburgh in the form of Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee fund.  The project was carried out by Dr Ola Uduku in collaboration with Hannah Le Roux from Wits University Johannesburg.

The material has been successfully digitised at the Edinburgh College of Art McGovern Media Centre that has the facilities for scanning and digitisation. The fragile nature of the drawings being scanned required a Reprographic Technician in the scanning and digitisation procedures. On completion, the drawings were returned to Lagos to form the Alan Vaughan Richards Archive at his former residence.

The digital, ‘soft copies’ of the scanned drawings were also both burnt onto discs and stored as high-resolution “tiff” and viewable “pdf” files, temporarily within digital server space allocated to Dr Uduku, until the Africa-based digital storage for the archive is set up in Lagos.
