Week 1

During week one, as a group we mind mapped ideas based on the brief  ‘We are this thing’ Together our group discussed living things, mythology and body parts. Discussing initial ideas to create a work of art which could be worn and paraded in the courtyard.

Wings became a central pointy in our design.

We created four different designs around the concept of wings. Our designs progressed from a butterfly transforming into a flower to a fictional pagan ritual of connection.

Each person being able to wear a wing coming together to create  a creature. Our discussion concluded with moth,Our body developed into a pagan/druid figure. The idea being as if she was leading the ritual. 3 people acting as wings, one person walking in front leading the wings.

We chose muted colours to inked with the earthy tones of pagan source images.

As a group we divided tasks. Giving each person an element to tackle.

Creating wings structure from cardboard, layered together to strengthen the structure. The structure was time consuming, problem solving the scale and how to maintain its stability while moving it like a wing.

Choosing Materials from nature to use in decorative elements of  the costume design was crucial for creating the over all aesthetic of the characters. Using willow, richer, dried leafs and branches. These items were used to create head wear and accessories.
