Exhibition Form Decided——”Alienation”

Once I had decided on the theme of my exhibition, my next step was to decide on the format of the exhibition.
I plan an offline exhibition, with a venue, with physical works, with an opening reception. Or planning a virtual exhibition, building web pages and virtual exhibitions, all full of technology. In either form, this is not an easy task. Especially when the Academy has failed to provide us with all the help and support we need.

I finally decided to curate an online exhibition for a number of reasons:

1. To expand the field – I had never curated an online exhibition before, it was completely new to me and although I had heard of online exhibitions, I had never delved into them, so curating an online exhibition would expand my curatorial boundaries and I would master a new form of curation.

2. Artwork selection – the artworks I choose may be modelled in 3D from the start, as they are closely related to science fiction and therefore do not necessarily have physical objects. Choosing an online exhibition allows for a better presentation of the artworks.

3. Artist selection – I cannot be sure that my artists and artworks are local to Edinburgh, so the transport and conservation of the work must be taken into account, which I know from my undergraduate studies is very costly, and I must also consider the possibility of loss and damage to the work, which will cause the artists I work with It would be a huge problem for the artists I was working with.

4. Current fashions – I think online exhibitions are probably a fad and are becoming more popular with the development of technology and I think as a young curator I should be able to keep up with the trends.

5. Skills acquisition – I would like to learn some 3D modelling techniques and be able to master software such as blender, I think young curators also need to learn the necessary computer skills to adapt to the current trends.

6. Portfolio preservation – the online exhibition format will allow me to keep the exhibition with me, so that if I need to apply for a job in the future I can send it to the recruiter as my portfolio, which will reflect my achievements during my studies more visually.

Taking these points into consideration I have finally decided that my exhibition will be an online one.
