Week 6 – Formative Review
27/2/24
This week was my formative review. So my focus was finalizing my hotel room design so far and then compiling it into a portfolio. I created my portfolio in InDesign in the same document as I created my design report containing all of the research I took out in weeks 1/2 on my film ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. I also put together the development of my work so far in the portfolio of my room design development through floor plans in autocad and some initial sketch up model interior views.

Proposed Hotel design Section :
After the formative review I was given some further feedback on my hotel room design so far. So following the review I started working on these in Sketch-up. For example, the rug underneath my bed I decided to change it to a more organic shape and make it slightly bigger. I did this to reflect the time period and for more comfort especially because the time period of the 70s everything had a very organic shape with lots of textures and earthy colours. I liked the way it looked because I felt it elevated the room a lot more. I made it a red/burnt orange colour to go with the rest of the colour palette of the room design.
I also looked at my vanity unit in the bathroom. I had previously added in built shelving into the rock wall as storage space but hadn’t thought too much about the vanity unit itself. I experimented with different ways it could be developing in autocad and hand sketching and decided to keep it mainly a large slab of marble, making up the lower part of the vanity and then the seating/side area. I added in two draws with gold handles to act as storage space for bathroom products. It was important that the bathroom looked sleek and stylish.
Additionally, I changed the seats in my design to more curved/egg like chairs with two circular foot stools. I enlarged the hanging light above the chairs to make it appear more lavish and grander in order to keep the concept of the film in mind in my design choices. Finally, I added a side table to create a space to put down drinks/books etc if people were to sit there.
