Initial proposal

The flipped classroom transforms the teacher from a knowledge transfer or in the traditional classroom to a facilitator and guide of learning. So, compared to the traditional classroom, the inverted classroom focuses more on facilitating effective communication and interaction between teachers and students. In my opinion, teachers need to listen. Therefore, the intervention I wanted to design was to create opportunities for the teacher to listen.

 

Context

The context I set was a course on venture capital for university students based on flipped classrooms. Business majors focus on a practical orientation in developing talent. The use of theory in the teaching process needs teachers to stimulate students to think about cutting-edge issues and to enhance student engagement in the classroom by increasing opportunities for teachers to listen to students’ ideas. In my essay,  I will attempt to design teaching practices for an undergraduate-level venture capital course. In the design process, I will use creative methods that allow the teacher to play a full listening role in facilitating relationality between teachers and students so that students can grasp the knowledge points of the venture capital course.

 

The purpose of listening

It is essential to listen to each student’s question, which can capture the differences in each student’s way of thinking and understand the student’s personality and uniqueness. Through listening, teachers can capture the information from students, and understand their learning progress and the difficulties and challenges they encounter. In addition, only by listening can we create a sense of trust in students, enhance communication and interaction between teachers and students, and establish a harmonious teacher-student relationship.

 

Type of listening

1.Listen to students’ questions.

Students are at a crucial stage in their learning process. They are curious about the world and have countless questions in their minds. Therefore, a teacher must respect students’ desire to learn, encourage them to ask questions and listen to them. It enables students to participate in teaching activities together as equals.

2.listen to students’ arguments.

“There are a thousand Hamlets for a thousand readers.” The class of dozens of students are all different, each with their personality. For some learning problems, all have their way of thinking and ideas. So in the classroom, let the children speak freely and express their different opinions, and even encourage them to “argue with each other” while the teacher listens attentively.

3.Listen to the unexpected voices of students.

In the classroom, we often encounter children’s interruptions. Admittedly, many students’ interjections are precisely their innovative ideas on display. If teachers can pay attention to listening and be good at spotting and reading in time, they will play a role in promoting teaching. The initiative is returned to the students to give them more thinking space.

 

Enhance relationality

Teachers’ listening is not just a matter of their ears being able to hear the appropriate sounds, nor is it a mechanical way of listening, but a means of emotional communication that can promote a more harmonious relationship between teacher and student. By listening, teachers can make students feel trusted and secure. Teachers and students in education establish a democratic and equal, harmonious and harmonious teacher-student relationship.
