I acquired a traffic cone as my third found object. I thought about how I could manipulate it in a clever way. I thought about what it reminded me of. ‘Cone’ brought to mind an ice cream cone which then got me thinking about how ice cream melts. What if I melted a traffic cone? I looked into physically melting the traffic cone but burning rubber didn’t sound very safe so I looked at other alternatives. I settled with making the cone give the appearance of being melted without actually doing any melting. I firmly cut off the base of the cone. I then dripped hot glue from a glue gun down the sides of the cone and then spray painted it gold to match the cone as well as giving it a glistening effect. I created a base using cardboard of which I also spray painted. The title ‘melting cone’ automatically draws your mind to an ice cream cone but here it is not the case..
