โ€”Held in Anren Ancient Town, Dayi County, Chengdu

https://biennialfoundation.org/biennials/anren-biennale/

Keywords:ย world-class/rich cultural and historical background / large exhibition hall space, complete facilities / diversified exhibition forms / reflect the social situation

Exhibition form: painting, photography, installation, video, sculpture, etc.

In 2017, I was fortunate enough to visit this exhibition in person. The first Anren Biennale gathered the works of more than 180 domestic and foreign artists. The characteristic of ancient rhyme allows people to go back to the past of Anren in the old mansion street, and at the same time, pass through time, taste the past and meet the beauty through pieces of art treasures. The entire exhibition hall includes four exhibition units: “Genealogical Rhetoric”, “Cross Street”, “A Future That Can’t Go Back”, and “Sichuan Stories”, building a new world where Chinese and Western art blend and collide.

Facing the “future”, we often hear echoing the times, but your own is the epitome of the times – this is the relationship between today and the past, artists present such a relationship intentionally or unintentionally, history is yourself, you I can’t get rid of it no matter what.

I think the location of the exhibition is very good because any biennale in a city should be related to the city, or to today’s issues, in order to have a certain meaning. We should respect the history of Anren, and use today’s perspective to look at the relationship between time, the present, and the past.

After the visit, I can’t help but sigh: “All history is contemporary history.” The “Future That Can’t Go Back” section seems to virtualize a perspective from the future, in the gesture of searching for a memory, obsessing over and writing about the current historical labyrinth.

Minor curatorial projects: Different directions - 2021 Shanghai Abstract Art Association Spring Exhibition

Held at Xu Demin Abstract Space, Building 18, the famous M50 Art Park in Shanghai

Keywords:ย limited space/one core theme/inadequate facilities/personal emotional expression

Exhibition form: painting

The entire exhibition hall is small in size, and the exhibition lasted only a short month, because one of the teachers is my friend’s mentor, and I was fortunate enough to see this exhibition in person. To sum up the whole exhibition in one word is “different”. “Different” is the essence of innovation and the essence of artistic value. It varies from person to person, and varies from person to person. The entire exhibition is actually a self-examination of one’s own values through painting. In the name of academics, examine the latest artistic achievements of artists, whether they have practiced the artistic spirit of independent aesthetics and free innovation, and whether they have achieved a “different” breakthrough.
