Begin by addressing their key concern (i.e. their anxiety: โ€˜Where should I start?โ€™)

First of all, we need to clarify the definition and tradition of non-conference. After reading “Ten Simple Rules for Organizing an Unconference”, I have a new understanding of the form of non-conference, which is like a meeting during a coffee break. A chat where people can mingle with each other and discuss a variety of topics, including their own research interests, in a more informal way. Differences from traditional conferences The informal and flexible program allows participants to bring up topics of their own interest and choose sessions accordingly. And each player plays an important role.

Just because non-meetings are free and flexible, I chose the inspiration collage activity as the theme of barcamp. This is a very good inspiration collection and sharing activity. It is completely open and is open to all those who are interested in art and collage. People, of course, the collage resources used are also from outdated magazines and posters in life.

โšซ๏ธTherefore, how to start becomes very simple, starting from the definition, first understand the difference from the traditional meeting, and find the advantages. Then combine your ideas to plan the venue, number of participants, materials used, etc.

You should try to draw on your own experience here. Given what you know now, what would you do?

I chose collage as my barcamp theme, because in the process of graphic design, I often use collage to show the inspiration process, which is clear and can bring a lot of new ideas. I think it is very important for every artist. Good at collage design. Richard Hamilton is very good at using collage techniques to express artistic concepts, and I am also deeply influenced by him. In 1956, “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?” boldly used American magazines The content in it reveals the social problems of mass consumer culture. I also made continuous improvements in designing my open package, from simple cardboard collages to recycling outdated newspapers and periodicals, and also gave a simple formal definition to the final product (everyone will make the final product exchange with others present).

ใ€ŠJust what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?ใ€‹
In the process of running my barcamp, I also asked myself three questions:
Why did you choose flowers as the collage theme? ใ€The collage technique used? ใ€What can participants gain?

โšซ๏ธFirst of all, collage works are often the product of inspiration capture, the impulse and desire of expression triggered by a certain behavior. Most of the expressed content is abstract ideology, but we need to visualize consciousness to express it through images. After choosing a main concept, we use our association ability to express our concept with some descriptive sentences, for example: I want to express a physical state: express an instability in two opposite states, etc. The content can be freely combined according to your own ideas.

โšซ๏ธTo transform a conceptual sentence into a specific image object requires a lot of association, and all images, graphics, symbols, and metaphors that can be associated with abstract intentions should be taken into account. The theoretical basis of this step is based on personal experience and common sense of literature, such as the accumulation of abstract concepts that appear in life, books and movies I have read, etc.

โšซ๏ธAfter seeing the works of Japanese collage creator Q-TA, I chose this theme. She will intercept the basic elements of life for creation. He breaks up these basic elements and then merges and reorganizes them, creating blurred borders between reality and fantasy.โฌ‡๏ธ

There are many deconstructions, repetitions, deformations, superpositions, connections, fillings, dissections, etc. of collage representations. In the process of collage, I will also maintain a logical relationship between the whole picture, just like an independent theater. Collage works are actually just static expressions of dynamic effects.

โ–ซ๏ธIn fact, collage is like a magnifying glass, and the works can show people’s emotions and emotions. Everyone is made up of trivial and fragmented fragments. Every stage of life and every hour of emotion makes us different. However, the whole is not just the sum of the individual parts. The whole has characteristics that the parts do not have. So, when you appreciate a collage work, you will see more than just one work. Everything is possible to be reconstructed and reorganized, colliding with each other to create new artistic sparks. Old photos, fashion magazines, pictorials, classic paintings, etc. Collage art is a tool that can regenerate new consciousness and emotion, and these new consciousness can subtly influence unconscious people.
For barcamp, based on this idea, I also hope that participants can learn about collage, feel the fun of it, and leave memories.

Before I do a graphic poster every time, I use the method of collage to collect inspiration fragments. This process is wonderful and interesting, and I hope to bring this process to more people. Creativity is not something that can be imagined out of thin air, and only by practicing can we tap the potential in this area. We all have creativity.

  1. Although I have listened to the author share her barcamp in class, I am still happy to see the author’s deeper insights in the article. The examples by Richard Hamilton and Q-TA are great and make the author’s ideas easier to understand. The author’s narrative that regarded the collage as a magnifying glass is interesting, each individual is indeed made up of many fragments, these fragments may be experiences or memories, and the collage is like a microcosm of life.

  2. The author’s post has given me a better understanding of collage art. And the author asked herself three questions when she started designing her Toolkit—-Why did you choose flowers as the collage theme? ใ€The collage technique used? ใ€What can participants gain? These three questions are really important to think about to make the author’s Toolkit more purposeful and to make sure that the author keeps running the Toolkit the way she intended. Really great post, gave me some new ideas to think about for my own article, thanks for sharing.

  3. I felt my mind was opened to infinite possibilities when I participated in zhiqian zhang’s barcamp. We used different papers to collage various colours and styles of flowers, which may not exist, but it was very interesting and it gave me a deeper understanding of deconstructionism.

  4. I discovered from Zhiqian Zhang’s post that collage genuinely functions as a magnifying glass and may convey the joys and sorrows of the human experience. Each person is made up of insignificant, dispersed parts. Every stage of life and every moving moment contributes to our individuality. The total is more than the sum of its parts, though. The totality possesses qualities that the individual components do not. As a result, a collage is more than just a piece of art when it is admired. A fresh artistic spark can be produced by repeatedly reconstructing everything and crashing it into one another. Old pictures, fashion publications, editorials, famous paintings, etc. A tool that can regenerate fresh consciousness and emotions that can subtly influence the unconscious is collage art.
