In the group tutorial this week, I talked to the tutor about the use of food building materials. My project itself is about food waste and it would make sense to include food-related recycled materials in the interior. The tutor mentioned the recycling of coffee cups and we talked to the students about reusing coffee beans and tea leaves.

In considering the use of materials for this community space, I wanted these materials to create a place that was very open, vibrant and at the same time appetising to people. My research at the end of the class revealed that there are organisations in Japan that are researching building materials made from fruits and vegetables, which is very relevant to my project.

In this Thursday’s tutorial, the structural engineer helped me with the installation and structural issues related to the staircase.
